Changing The World One Globe at A Time

I love the look, the feel of a globe- the topography, 
the colors, the boundries.
There is something about a globe...
even though now, more often than not,
those we own may be an outdated geographical source. 
It is kind of interesting to look at older
globes and actually see how our world has changed.
I was so intrigued when I came across
the work of  Wendy Gold.
This local Marin-based artist is...
turning the world on it's head~ so to speak.
~ It's called Imaginations ~
Wendy finds globes at garage sales and flea markets, and decoupages them
 with recycled materials. The results are part history, part whimsy.

There are eleven designs and, 
each  is more enchanting than the next:
 On Flutter By, (above)the continents are covered in hand-cut butterflies, Your World is personalized  with your family tree and Where the Wild Things Are tells the classic story as the globe spins.

The possibilities are endless, much like I guess...

 a road more traveled.

Mapping Hollywood

Yes, this is the  (Golden Globes!)kick off weekend for 

award season, and after the holidays

it is welcome frivolity.

In a nod to the categories of

 Television and Film,

which attribute the state symbols 

using  movies and TV series-

it's not official, but you never know!

David vs Goliath

 Excelsior resident Aaron Perry-Zucker decided to cover up graffiti in his neighborhood by re-painting benches in bright colors that he says deter the vandals from returning - at least not as quickly as they would when the city covered their scrawlings with drab grays and browns.

Neighborhood groups like the Excelsior Action Group, who also work to clean up the area, approve of Perry-Zucker's benches that appear in a range of primary colors, but the artist admits he doesn't actually have permission from any sort of authority to leave his mark in the park. As Rec and Parks spokesman Elton Pon stated boringly: "the public is not allowed to paint over city property at will, no matter how bright and colorful the paint" and promised that the benches and signs would quickly return to their standard color sometime this week. How drab.

In the meantime, Perry-Zucker says he's on the look out for other things in the park brighten up.

One SFMOMA Two Great Exhibits

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Cartier-Bresson began his career in photography in 1931 and is one of the early greats of photojournalism. Trained as an artist, Cartier-Bresson helped to develop the style of the street photographer. He worked for a variety of journals including Life Magazine capturing iconic images of key events including the coronation of King George VI and the rose of Mao and the People's Republic of China. One of the fascinating things about Cartier-Bresson is that by 1975 he decided he was done with photography and spent the remainder of his life (he died in 2004) focused on painting and drawing.

This is a major retrospective offers a fresh look at

Cartier-Bresson's entire career, revealing him as one of the 

great portraitists of the 20th century and one of its keenest observers 

of the global theater of human affairs.

Sorry, but I really don't buy into that 

whole January cleanse thing- it's not like I need to fit into 

a gown for the Golden Globes.

Of course, we are trying to eat extra healthy

and with THAT, rewards are - a must!

Hot Chocolate With Citrus, Cinnamon and Brandy

Serves 8

• 6 cups half-and-half
• One 4-inch cinnamon stick
• Zest of 1 orange
• 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
• 9 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
• 1/2 cup brandy (personally- I would up this)

How perfect does that sound??

So have a light dinner- salmon with 

some quinoa and a salad on the side

and after the dishes are put away, sit down with this delectable 

cup of yummy and the latest installment of Jimmy Fallon.

One of (the many) blogs I check in with

on a regular basis is Ari Seth Cohen's

It's Christmas Eve, the letters have been read,

Calgon Take Me Away

We're in the thick of it here, you know,

wrapping, scrambling, stashing and dashing-

aren't we all? 

How does this sound...

a long weekend on the edge of the ocean...

relaxing, being lazy

and simply stopping to listen to the waves

outside your bedroom.

No ribbons, tape or scissors,

no flour, sugar or baking sheets.
